Yunlin Story House was originally the official residence of the magistrate of Huwei Commandery, a Japanese-style wooden building built in 1920. In 2001, it was registered as a historical building along with the Yunlin Puppet Show Museum and the Hetong Building (Eslite Bookstore/Starbucks). It once faced demolition but was saved by a joint petition from Huwei residents, local cultural historians, scholars, representatives, and media professionals. After renovation was completed in 2006, it began trial operations on March 8, 2007. On December 19 of the same year, the Yunlin Storytellers Association was entrusted with its operation, making it the first successfully revitalized historical building in Yunlin County. This initiative has also promoted cultural policies in Yunlin County. Since taking over the operation of Erlun Story House in 2014, Tuku Story House, Yongguang Story House, and Taixi Haikou Story House have been established in other townships in Yunlin, opening a new chapter for the Yunlin Story Movement. To celebrate the 12th anniversary of Yunlin Story House and the 100th anniversary of Huwei's establishment as a commandery, a special "100-Person Street Parade" was planned, connecting the surrounding four cultural centers and Huwei Salon (an independent bookstore), and inviting samba dance troupes from communities in Douliu, Yunlin, and across Taiwan to participate. With the philosophy of "If you want to have culture, you have to create it yourself," our association uses "Sugar Capital Opera Culture Tour" - Sugar Capital (Huwei), Opera (Puppet Show), Culture (Story), Tour (Taiwan Tourist Shuttle) - as a framework for its cultural development.
