From place names within the township such as Zhonglin, Dingyuanlin, Lintou, Linzianqian, and Lintouzi, one can imagine the lush scenery of the past. During the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty, pioneers discovered this fertile land and gradually formed a bustling street village here, serving as a trading center for nearby tribes, known as 'Dapulin Street'. Since the Japanese colonial era, the development of Dalin Township has been closely related to the 'Dalin Sugar Factory'. In the early post-war period, due to the Dalin Sugar Factory, local industry and commerce developed significantly. The town was bustling with merchants and incredibly prosperous, becoming the wealthiest area in Chiayi, which was the most glorious era for Dalin Township. This settlement is located in the liveliest commercial district of Dalin Township, adjacent to Dalin Train Station. The main area is centered around Zhongshan Road, Zhongzheng Road, and Heping Street in Dalin Township, mostly consisting of old buildings over 50 years old. During the 1970s and 1980s, it was the most prosperous area in Dalin Township. In recent years, due to population migration, the population has gradually declined. Currently, about 30,000 people reside in the town, which is also a very livable town. The members of the Dalin Slow City Association in Chiayi County were co-founded by two local Dalin residents, Jiang Minghe and Xu Kaixing. The founding was inspired by the realization that Dalin Township was once the wealthiest place in Chiayi County and the northern gateway to Chiayi County.
