Zhengbin Fishing Harbor was built in the 1930s as part of Japan's harbor construction plan, making it Taiwan's first modern fishing port. It even marked a glorious chapter in Northern Taiwan's fishing history in the 1970s. Its advantageous geographical location and the implementation of the Japanese harbor construction plan, coupled with abundant marine resources, opened up Taiwanese perspectives on marine culture, gradually establishing a complete industrial chain around Zhengbin and Heping Island. During its prosperity in the Japanese colonial era, Zhengbin Fishing Harbor had an auction market by the harbor, where fresh catches were traded on the shore. Until the 1980s, the government planned to replace Zhengbin Fishing Harbor with Badouzi Fishing Harbor. Coupled with environmental changes and fishing restrictions, catches gradually decreased, and Zhengbin Fishing Harbor slowly declined, leading to the closure of related industries. As Taiwan's oldest port and the only one that once had international connections, its development began in 1626 when the Spanish established a trading post here. Later, during the Japanese colonial era, it became Northern Taiwan's first modern fishing port. However, with the decline of the fishing industry, it began to fall into disuse from the 1990s onwards.
