Jian Bookstore. Founded in 2016, Jian Bookstore established Jian Yi Culture Co., Ltd. in 2018. Now in its eighth year at the current location, with a core team of 6 staff members. Located in the Miaokou commercial district of Keelung City, adjacent to the Keelung Cultural Center. Upholding the vision of becoming the 'Heart of Culture' in Keelung, we offer an independent bookstore that is open year-round and accessible anytime for the people of Keelung, while also opening up possibilities for dialogue through space. We use carefully selected books on 'Ocean' and 'Taiwan' as tools to convey local knowledge, and we organize various art exhibitions, lectures, performances, walking tours, and book clubs in the bookstore and surrounding areas to enrich local cultural life, cultivate partners for operating arts and cultural venues, and realize the imagination of local 'life practice'. 'Opening a bookstore is an ongoing social movement' is the core philosophy of Jian Bookstore. At the time of deciding to open the bookstore, Keelung's last bookstore closed for renovation (now permanently closed). The founder, in response to their love for arts and culture and to prevent reading culture from being absent in the area, decided to return to the book industry. After opening the bookstore, we approached it from the perspective of operating a cultural venue, creating an atmosphere that accommodates the development of diverse issues. Using a grassroots work process of 'identifying problems, analyzing issues, becoming the issue, and formulating action plans,' we integrate our core philosophy to build a response that resonates with the local community.
