New Chiayi Theater is located on the second floor of Building K in the Chiayi City Cultural and Creative Industries Park. Formerly a sorghum starter manufacturing room, it is a century-old building that was originally part of the old Chiayi Distillery. In 2018, Ruan Theater Company transformed it into a multi-functional performance and screening venue, breathing new life into the old building and taking on the name "Chiayi Theater" – Chiayi's first theater, founded in 1909, which was once an important cultural exchange space for the area. New Chiayi Theater is committed to becoming a community cultural platform, not just a performance venue, but also a cultural base that connects the local community and nurtures creativity. Its small scale and unique "intimacy" make it particularly suitable for hosting gatherings, performances, and workshops for 30 to 80 people, emphasizing close interaction between performers and the audience. In terms of operational philosophy, New Chiayi Theater focuses on the "community" and develops in four major directions: "Performances," "Lectures and Salons," "Courses," and "Youth Community Base," with four major goals: strengthening local connections, establishing an art base, cultivating local talent, and increasing the art-loving population.
