Cultivation began during the Qianlong era, and as development progressed, a settlement gradually formed, with a ferry crossing, becoming an important waterway hub connecting the Lanyang Plain. From its early focus on rice farming to the paper industry developed during the Japanese colonial period, the community gradually formed an industrial cluster centered around paper mills. Additionally, the Wanggong Temple within the community serves as the core of faith and is renowned for its unique "Guo Huo" (fire-walking) ritual. Rice Farmer Culture This base has been a major rice production center in the Lanyang Plain since ancient times. The "Erjie Granary" near the train station was responsible for purchasing and transporting rice from the vast agricultural areas. This building witnessed the prosperity of the rice industry and the local economic development at that time. Although it has faded into history with the changing times, the Erjie Granary still attracts attention with its elegant and simple appearance. Currently, the building has been designated as a county-level historic site and has been converted into a venue for displaying rice culture, allowing visitors to understand the rice cultivation process and the daily lives of rice farmers. Furthermore, the "Erjie Canal" was once the lifeline of local agriculture and remains an important testament to Erjie's rice culture to this day.
