In 2009, 'Tavalan Good' arrived in Chishang with the mission 'Tavalan Good Starts from Townships,' exploring local stories and depth, working together with the community, transforming Chishang from Taiwan's rice hometown with the highest grain prices to a nationally and internationally renowned center for arts and culture. The 'Chishang Art Village,' which attracts artists for residencies every year; the 'Chishang Barn Art Museum,' Taiwan's first professional art museum converted from a granary; and the 'Chishang Autumn Harvest Rice Festival,' which has repeatedly garnered international media attention, have made Chishang more than just 'above the Dapo Pond,' inspiring many small towns to 'become Chishang.'
I. Local Cheerleader, Cultivating 15 Years of the Autumn Harvest Rice Festival
After 'Tavalan Good' came to Chishang in 2009, it created four seasons of cultural activities: spring plowing, summer weeding, autumn harvest, and winter storage. Among these, the 'Chishang Autumn Harvest Rice Festival,' from Chen Guan-yu's solo piano performance to Cloud Gate Dance Theatre's performances emerging from the soil, attracts thousands of people annually to enjoy performances amidst a cultural landscape of 175 hectares of golden rice waves. 'Autumn Harvest' has become Chishang's brand and a major event, uniting a large volunteer team of over 300 people. 'Tavalan Good' has further supported the establishment of local associations, enabling the team's experience to be passed on to local residents, serving as a successful example of local regeneration and making Chishang a benchmark for beautiful rural life in Taiwan.
