Coupled with the production of affordable offset printing presses, high-efficiency and labor-saving offset printing gradually replaced letterpress printing as the primary printing method, consequently impacting the letterpress printing industry chain. By 2000, after the closure of Taiwan's largest lead type foundry, Zhongnan Typography, Rixing Typography officially became the only lead type foundry still in production in Taiwan. Today, Chang Chieh-kuan is the sole surviving type founder in Taiwan, and Rixing Typography is the last type foundry in Taiwan, and possibly the last traditional Chinese lead type foundry in the world; type founding is a craft on the verge of disappearing. After the current owner, Chang Chieh-kuan, took over Rixing Typography, he upheld the spirit of 'As long as there is one letterpress printing house in Taiwan, Rixing will continue to produce lead type.' For over forty years without interruption, they have cast lead type with fire, safeguarding Taiwan's world heritage in the modern age of light and electricity.
