The Story Begins with a River with a Scent. "Shigouqian" is the Northernmost Branch of the Five Harbors, once used to transport night soil, hence its seemingly "smelly" name; this old street house, built in 1897, is located beside this river. After the completion of the Tainan Canal, the old riverbed was filled in due to siltation, and residents gradually expanded and raised their houses, forming the appearance of today's residences. Stepping into Shigouqian Living Room, simple wooden and bamboo rattan furniture showcases the retro life scenery of old Tainan. The owner, Director Cai, says that the reason for naming it "Shigouqian Living Room" is to extend the image of a living room, allowing people to gather and live here freely. The roof beams above, the white pebbles on the ground, and the red brick walls beside it all retain historical traces; more than a hundred years ago, during the Japanese colonial era, the Japanese implemented urban renewal plans in Tainan, demolishing many old city walls and buildings.
