Kanding Home. Kanding Home B&B is a four-story townhouse located on Tianliao Road, Kanding Township, Pingtung County, not far from the Kanding Interchange of the Second National Freeway. The owner, originally from northern Taiwan, purchased the property for its convenient location near the freeway, its rural scenery, and its rare high-ceiling living room. They planned to retire there and live a life of leisure, akin to Tao Yuanming's poem "Plucking Chrysanthemums by the Eastern Hedge, I Gaze into the Southern Mountains." They commissioned Mr. Shi Zhihong, a teacher at Fuxing High School of Arts in New Taipei City, to design and oversee the renovation. After several trips between north and south, Mr. Shi felt that such a wonderful place should be shared with more people and suggested converting it into a B&B. The owner was also amenable to this idea, and thus the B&B concept was established. During construction, Mr. Shi aimed to preserve the original layout of the house as much as possible. However, the front rooms lacked en-suite bathrooms, which would have significantly reduced the usable space. Coincidentally, the house faces west, offering views of the sunset. Therefore, the balcony was converted into a glass-enclosed bathroom, allowing guests to enjoy the beautiful sunset directly from their rooms. Additionally, due to the original septic tank being located at the rear and the inability to run pipes through it, a new septic tank was excavated underground in the front yard.
