PAPO'A Hotel. How wonderful would it be to live in a place full of applause! This was our initial thought. How wonderful would it be to live in a place full of applause! This was our initial thought. PAPO'A (meaning applause in Taiwanese Hokkien) is a place that aims to create and preserve applause. In the summer of 2016, this idea finally had the opportunity to come to fruition. Before this, we had pondered countless times about the meaning and value of "living." We believe that living should not just be a physical and mental settlement, but rather a journey of exploring life. This includes the local culture, history, and customs, as well as the host's thoughtful consideration for travelers. All of this can be subtly and delicately satisfied through the senses. We designed the exterior of PAPO'A with fair-faced concrete as its primary architectural expression and paired it with an industrial-style interior design. This is because, in our memory, Kaohsiung itself is a city with an industrial image, and this presentation perfectly expresses PAPO'A's origins and characteristics from Kaohsiung. The lobby uses black bricks fired from the "Sanhe Tile Kiln," a traditional Southern Taiwan kiln established in 1913, as building materials. The greatest advantage of black bricks, after being carbonized by firing, is that they not only absorb odors but also emit negative ions beneficial to the human body. At the same time, its rustic
