Stepping through the gate under the shade of trees, onto the dirt floor of the dwelling, one can see black tiles on low-rise houses, quiet interior rooms, and slightly decaying plants in the courtyard, still conveying the changes that have occurred in the architecture and human affairs over the long years of the dependent village. Exiting the small side door next to the kitchen, surrounded by walls, winding alleys lead left or right to another dependent village family's home. Those scenes of dependent village life we've seen on TV or read about in books, such as emphasis on human connection and mutual help, are all here. In dependent villages, homes are often interconnected, and one's children are like everyone else's, borrowing cooking oil and salt is a common occurrence. Although the buildings don't speak like those in TV shows or books, telling us much about past history, living within and carefully exploring the traces of the space—forged iron window grilles, wooden windows, red doors, plants grown for theft prevention, super sweet tropical fruits...—all are part of the dependent village.
