This unique cultural landscape. Kaohsiung is Taiwan's largest military settlement, boasting military dependents' village cultures from the Fengshan Army, Zuoying Navy, and Gangshan Air Force. This unique cultural landscape is unparalleled in other counties and cities. Through the preservation and revitalization of these villages, their essence and historical value are highlighted, offering a different facet of Kaohsiung. The remaining structures embody the past; stepping through the trees and into the gate, onto the earthen floor of a military dependent's home, one can see black tiles on low-rise bungalows, silent interior corridors, and slightly withered plants in the courtyard. One can still feel the changes that these long years in the military dependents' village have brought to the architecture and its people. Exiting through the small side door next to the kitchen, surrounded by walls and winding alleys, one can turn left or right to reach another military dependent's home. All those scenes we've seen on TV or in books, such as the emphasis on human warmth and mutual help, descriptions of life in a military dependents' village, are here. Living in a military dependents' village, neighbors are often interconnected, and one's own children are like those of others. Borrowing daily necessities is perfectly normal. Although the buildings don't speak like TV shows or books, telling us much about past history, by staying inside and carefully exploring the traces of the space – the wrought iron window grilles, wooden windows, red main doors, plants grown for security, super sweet tropical fruits... all are part of the military dependents' village.
