Even further back, it was the family home of the proprietors of a well-known traditional duck soup restaurant in Tainan. Going back even further to the early Republic of China era, Kinokoji was a warehouse built by a Chinese medicine merchant. After landing at 'Fanliao Port,' they used 'ballast stones' as the foundation, stacked large 8-inch red bricks, used clay in the middle, and coated the surface with oyster shell powder to store medicinal herbs.
