Among all indigenous peoples in Taiwan, the weaving of the Atayal tribe is the most renowned. With only a simple loom and two weaving techniques, the Atayal people can create a myriad of intricate patterns, sparking curiosity and admiration. As an Atayal woman, I grew up watching my grandmother's deeply wrinkled face and focused gaze, her nimble hands skillfully weaving beautiful patterns between the threads. Those unforgettable eyes always lingered in my mind. As an adult, I still recall the texture of handmade weaving and the emotion felt when gazing at long woven fabrics. I have since combined handmade weaving with modern tailoring techniques, using traditional dark color palettes to represent the profound eyes of our ancestors, allowing me to constantly feel their warmth. Today, the horizontal stripes of the weaving are seen as a rainbow, a path to reunite with our ancestors. The diamond pattern symbolizes the eyes of our ancestors, watching over the tribe. We combine indigenous totems with leather to produce distinctive products such as wallets and bags.
