Established in 1989, it was founded by Mr. Chen Ying-sheng, a pioneer in the central Taiwan construction industry. Adjacent to the resort is a natural lake called "Dexing Pond," originally named "Guaizi Lake." This area was a habitat for frogs, and their croaking filled the summer air. The name "Guaizi" comes from the Hakka pronunciation of "frog." In 1959, it was renamed Dexing Pond. As Dexing Pond is located in Xihu Village, Sanyi Township, covering an area of approximately 10 hectares and surrounded by mountains, its scenery is exceptionally beautiful, rivaling Hangzhou's West Lake in mainland China. Therefore, local residents also refer to it as "West Lake." Mr. Chen Ying-sheng hoped to combine Sanyi's romantic misty scenery and wood carving art to create a resort destination as renowned as Hangzhou's West Lake. Thus, the resort was named "West Lake Resort.
