The oral history of Changhua County records that in 1940 (during the 15th year of the Showa era), the current inheritors of Zheng Changhua Meatball, Yang Yalan and Yang Yazhu, their grandfather Yang Yongxiang, due to his father's early death and many siblings, in order to maintain the family's livelihood, discussed with his mother and eldest brother, and decided to apprentice under a master craftsman in Lukang to learn the culinary skills of traditional snacks – minced meat (Lukang dialect). After completing the arduous apprenticeship, he finally received the master craftsman's praise and approval, allowing Yang Yongxiang and his mother, Xu Shuitiao, to start selling their products by street vendors, thus beginning the four-generation legacy of Changhua Meatball. Zheng Changhua Meatball, with a history of 82 years and four generations of culinary art, is currently jointly operated by the fourth-generation daughter, her husband, and her mother. What has been passed down through the fourth generation is not only the traditional ancient flavor but also the down-to-earth spirit of diligence and honesty from previous generations. Even in the face of changing times and the gradual decline of traditional snacks, they continue to embody the unique spirit of innovation and change characteristic of the people of Taiwan. With a delicious taste inherited for over eighty years, they will continue to meticulously develop new techniques and provide a delicious experience with new textures for their meatballs.
