Ming Hsiang Bakery is a century-old pastry shop in Xikou Township (since 1915), founded by Mr. Chen Tian-song. Mr. Chen Tian-song learned his pastry-making techniques from a master craftsman from mainland China in Xikou Township. The most representative pastry souvenir in Xikou Township, 'Niaozai Cake' (Bird Cake), was created by applying his learned pastry skills to shape traditional Hakka 'sweet potato cakes' into various forms (such as birds, fish, leaves, gourds, pipes, water chestnuts, etc.). Therefore, it was also called 'Se Bing' (colored cakes in Taiwanese Hokkien) in the early days, meaning cakes of various shapes and colors. Each Niaozai Cake from our shop is handcrafted by the third-generation owner, Mr. Chen Gan-yu, who inherits the century-old craftsmanship. After baking, the Niaozai Cake has a golden, crispy crust and a rich filling. With the evolution of the times, Ming Hsiang Bakery has also developed more flavors. Currently, there are five options for customers: sweet potato, taro, red bean, mung bean paste, and matcha. In addition to Niaozai Cake, our Dragon Phoenix Cake and Mian Cha (flour tea) have also received the Golden Brand Award. So, when you visit Ming Hsiang, remember to take some Dragon Phoenix Cake and Mian Cha along with Niaozai Cake to make your trip truly worthwhile!
