Why is it called 'Xitou'? It turns out that Zhongxing Road, which runs through Xinshi Street, was the most bustling and prosperous street in Xinshi. Xinshi people used to call the eastern half 'Dongtou' and the western half 'Xitou'. The illiterate boss didn't understand shop sign aesthetics, and since the ice cream shop was located in the western half, he directly named it 'Xitou Ice City'. The founder, Pan Da-jian (born 1933), was tall and strong, and everyone called him 'Da-ren'. He came from a poor family and made a living by riding his bicycle to the mountains to pick up bananas, sweet potatoes, and other grains to sell, or by selling popsicles and taro ice to exchange for sweet potatoes to dry and eat. After getting married, he and his wife, Pan Chen-guo (born 1933), raised four children. As the children grew older and the burden of living expenses and tuition became heavier, they decided to start their own business.
