Black tea master Shi Chaoxing, in 1949, entered the "Tea Industry Training Institute" to learn tea-making techniques, and was later assigned to work at the "Chimu Black Tea Factory." Inheriting Japanese tea-making techniques, this veteran tea master served as the "Factory Director" until retirement. His passion and persistence for black tea witnessed the rise and fall of the Sun Moon Lake black tea industry. Once, Sun Moon Lake black tea was extremely popular, from the cultivation work in the early Japanese colonial period to the golden age of tea in the 1960s with tea gardens covering the mountains. However, with the drastic changes in the tea industry and the dumping of cheap foreign tea, the Sun Moon Lake black tea industry gradually declined. The veteran tea master cultivated and made tea for sixty years, cherishing his attachment to this land and his expectations for the industry. So, even when others became rich by planting betel nuts, he insisted on planting tea, choosing to believe that black tea would have its glory days again. Currently, the second generation has inherited their father's craftsmanship and tea-making techniques. In addition to diligently making good tea, they are determined to make good tea known and to create a new look for Sun Moon Lake black tea. In 2005, a tourist tea factory was established, providing a place to witness the historical and cultural development of the Sun Moon Lake black tea industry. In addition to allowing more people to understand the knowledge of the black tea industry, it also contributes to the inheritance of local culture and further promotes the Sun Moon Lake black tea culture, allowing the world to see the tea art revival of Sun Moon Lake black tea.
