The founder of 'Guogou Rice Noodles', Zhuang Jinhua (born 1938), lost her son and her daughter-in-law, Yu Liangying (A-yue), had to go out to work. Zhuang Jinhua took care of her three young grandchildren and sold rice puddings to supplement the family income. Later, her sister taught her the secret to making rice noodles, and she switched to selling them. Zhuang Jinhua first carried them in a lead bucket and sold them door-to-door, then switched to a cart, and finally settled at the temple entrance to sell. In 2010, as Zhuang Jinhua grew older, her daughter-in-law, Yu Liangying (A-yue), took over the business and continued to sell at the temple entrance, writing the next chapter in the legend of 'Guogou Rice Noodles'. Making rice noodles is quite laborious. The night before, Indica rice (pure glutinous rice) needs to be soaked for 5 hours.
